(SANTA ROSA)—Santa Rosa Symphony’s Preparatory and Discovery Orchestras present their Spring Concert on Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Sonoma Country Day School’s Jackson Theater. William R. Williams, long-time Symphony violinist and mentor to young musicians, conducts both ensembles.
The Preparatory Orchestra’s program features works by Beethoven, Saint-Saëns Brahms and others. The Discovery Orchestra will perform Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf and Copland’s Variations on a Shaker Melody.
The Preparatory Orchestra, founded in 1977, is an entry-level ensemble that provides a rich educational experience for musicians who wish to play with a full orchestra while increasing their knowledge and performing with peers of comparable skill. The age range is approximately 7-14. The Discovery Orchestra, established in 1994, is an intermediate-to-advanced level, full orchestra for upper elementary, junior high and senior high school students up to 18 years of age.
Tickets for the Prep/Discovery Spring Concert are $8 in advance; at the door $10 for seniors/students and $12 for adults. Tickets can be purchased through the Rosa Symphony Box Office: (707) 54-MUSIC or online at www.santarosasymphony.com. |
