(SANTA ROSA, CA) –The Santa Rosa Symphony presents the second of its 4-concert Early Romantics Festival on Feb. 24, 2007, at 5:30 p.m. at Sonoma Country Day School’s Jackson Theater.
This performance offers the chamber music of Felix Mendelssohn, a composer said to possess a “Mozartian genius” and the lofty sensibilities of true Romanticism. On the program are Piano Trio No. 2, Sextet for Piano and Strings, and Songs Without Words. The latter is a group of piano miniatures that imitate the Lied, or art song, that flourished in the work of Mendelssohn, Schumann, Schubert, Brahms and others.
Mack McCray, faculty member at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and former teacher of Jeffrey Kahane, is the Festival host and featured pianist. He will play and direct the evening’s musical exploration.
Following the concert, audience members will have the opportunity to attend a wine reception with the musicians, compliments of Kendall Jackson.
Single tickets are still available at $23 and $31 for the March 31 chamber concert. Single tickets for the Festival Finale of Symphonie fantastique on April 28 at the Wells Fargo Center range from $27-$50. These may be purchased online at www.santarosasymphony.com. Student Rush tickets for all remaining concerts can be obtained for $10 each (with valid student I.D) at the venue 30 minutes before the performance.
Santa Rosa Symphony gratefully acknowledges The National Endowment for the Arts, Jackson Wine Estates and Barbara Banke & Jess Jackson for making this festival series possible.
