(SANTA ROSA, CA) The works to be presented by the 12 to 19-year-olds of the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra at their Winter Concert are challenging enough to be on the program of any professional orchestra. Under the baton of Youth Orchestra Music Director Dr. Richard Loheyde, the orchestra will perform selections from Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, the first in a series of three ballets that continue to dominate the genre; Night on Bald Mountain by the 19th century Russian composer, Mussorgsky; the Fifth Symphony of Felix Mendelssohn; and Roman Carnival Overture by Berlioz.
The musical action begins at the family-friendly hour of 4 p.m. at Sonoma Country Day School’s Jackson Theater on Sunday, December 17. Proceeds from the concert benefit the Santa Rosa Symphony youth ensembles, in particular the music coaching program.
Tickets are $8 in advance and can be purchased through the Rosa Symphony Box Office: (707) 54-MUSIC or online at www.santarosasymphony.com. At the door, tickets are $10 for seniors/students and $12 for adults.
