(SANTA ROSA)—Young People’s Chamber Orchestra, a conductorless string ensemble of 27 musicians ranging in age from 12 to 18, presents its Winter Concert on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. The performance takes place at the Glaser Center, 547 Mendocino Avenue in Santa Rosa.
The varied program includes Ouverture des Nations anciens et modernes by Telemann, Suite Luna de miel by Barstad, Cello Concerto in G minor by Monn, Mendelssohn’s Sinfonia No. 10 in B minor, and Schubert’s Rondo for Violin and String Orchestra. Featured soloists are Beth McLeester, pianist, Anna Tedeschi, cello, and special guest artist, violinist Iris Stone of the New Century Chamber Orchestra. Stone’s appearance gives the young players the special experience of performing with a musician of stature from the famed ensemble on which they were modeled.
The Young People’s Chamber Orchestra (YPCO), established in 1998, is directed and mentored by Santa Rosa Symphony principal violist, Linda Ghidossi-DeLuca. The young musicians have performed in tandem with the New Century Chamber Orchestra and were selected by competitive audition to perform at the 2006 Berkeley Junior Bach Festival.
YPCO is the first of its kind in northern California, taking the traditional orchestra performance one step further by molding a group of highly-trained string students into a virtuoso ensemble that performs without a conductor. YPCO creates—through performance, education, and accessibility—a personal connection with its audience, and conveys the joy of music directly to its listeners.
Admission is $10 for students & seniors and $12 for adults. Tickets may be purchased in advance through the Rosa Symphony Box Office: (707) 54-MUSIC, online www.santarosasymphony.com, or at the door.
