(SANTA ROSA, CA) – Santa Rosa Symphony’s 4-concert series, Latin Waves: A Festival of Rhythm, Melody and Dance continues Saturday, March 29 at 5:30 p.m. at Sonoma Country Day School’s Jackson Theater. Titled “Spain: Flamenco Beat,” this concert showcases the SRS Chamber Players performing works by major Spanish composers Isaac Albéniz, Joaquin Turina and Manuel de Falla.

Collaborating with the SRS Chamber players in a program that expresses the soul of Andalusian Spain, is Flamenco Arts Company of Santa Rosa, with singer/guitarist Robin Brown and dancers led by artistic director Elena Marlowe. They will express in movement and song the deep and profound influence of the flamenco spirit and sensibility. In addition to Marlowe and Brown, Flamenco Arts Company performers include: Teresa la Filigrana, Irene Sohm, Jan Zeitlin, Adrienne Gromala and Kathleen Langermann.

Robin Brown took classical guitar training with maestros such as Alirio Diaz, Italian Siena Master Classes with Andres Segovia, and voice and guitar lessons with Richard Dyer-Bennet, before consecrating himself to flamenco with Jack Buckingham, Rafael Gutiérrez, José Ramon, Mariano Cordoba, Juan Martin and most recently he studied with Manuel Parejo, Rafael Domingo, and José Galván for flamenco vocals and dancing.

He performed with North Coast Ballet and Maruja Vargas’s Spanish Dance Co., then with International Dance Theater in Santa Rosa, California, with Clifford dos Reis Jones, and finally with Cuadro Iberico, Flamenco Arts Co. and Soniquete José Galván. Today, Brown is music director and manager of the Flamenco Arts Co. and school in Santa Rosa with his companion Elena Marlowe; he teaches flamenco guitar, vocals and dance.

Elena Marlowe (stage name “Elena”) has been Robin Brown’s companion for more than 20 years and is the artistic director of Flamenco Arts Co. She teaches flamenco dance there as well as at various workshops and festivals, and performed from 1985 to 1997 with Clifford Dos Reis Jones’ International Dance Theater and Cuadro Iberico, and since 1997 with Flamenco Arts Co. and Soniquete José Galván. Galván qualifies the beautiful, mesmerizing and truly authentic Elena as “pura” and one of his favorite students world-wide. She was recently featured in Michael Brown’s documentary film My Father, His Flamenco, and I in which she performed with Robin Brown at the Planète Andalucia in Paris in 2002. She also performed in “Petenera—a Flamenco Drama in Music and Dance” at the Jackson Theater in 2004.
