Malin Fritz, mezzo-soprano

Malin Fritz’ orchestral credits include Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky with Virginia Symphony; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with Jacksonville, Syracuse, and Cape symphony orchestras; Janácek’s Glagolitic Mass, Bach’s Magnificat and Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with Milwaukee Symphony; Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius, Verdi’s Requiem and Mahler's Symphony No. 3 with Toledo Symphony; Tchaikovsky’s rare cantata, Moscow, with American-Russian Youth Symphony at Tanglewood and Carnegie Hall; Mozart’s Requiem with Long Beach Symphony; Verdi’s Requiem with the Key Chorale in Florida, and with Nashville, Syracuse, and Canton symphonies; and Handel’s Messiah with the Ann Arbor’s University Musical Society.

In the 2007-08 season she returns to Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra under Fabio Marchetti in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. In the 2006-07 season she returned to the Metropolitan Opera as Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte). Other opera highlights include Moses und Aron with the Metropolitan Opera, Azucena (Il Trovatore) with Monterey Opera, Opera San Jose and (in French) Sarasota Opera; Amneris (Aida) with Syracuse Opera; the title role in Carmen in Belgium; the Metropolitan Opera tour of Japan as Schwertleite (Die Walküre);Rossweisse (Die Walküre) and the title role in Carmen, both with Opera San Jose; Carmen with the Estonian National Opera; Cornelia (Giulio Cesare) with Virginia Opera; Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro) and Antonia’s Mother (Les contes d’Hoffmann) with New York City Opera; the title role in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice with the Elysian Opera Group in New York; and Menotti’s The Consul with the Festival Dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy.

 

Fritz can be heard as Cornelia on the Koch International recording of Giulio Cesare and as Vera Boronel in The Consul for the Chandos label. She graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, was the Shoshana Foundation Richard F. Gold Career Grant Award winner at Chautauqua, and was a National Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions.
