Summer Music Academy

July 12-31, 2010

All classes are Monday through Friday with a final performance on Saturday, July 31st, exact performance time pending class enrollment and scheduling.

Instrument Classes

Tuition $285
Students must provide their own instrument at every class.
Violin, ages 5-7 and 8-13
9-11AM
We take students with no prior music experience and continuing students who have prior violin experience. Classes introduce students to playing the violin in a group setting. Students will be placed in either beginning or continuing violin classes based upon a teacher evaluation on the first day of class. A music appreciation class (an introduction to beginning music concepts) is included at no additional charge.

Low Strings Workshop for Cello and Bass, ages 8-15
9-11AM
No prior music experience is necessary. This class is also appropriate for the beginning to intermediate students who have played cello or bass for 0-3 years. The class introduces students to playing the cello and bass in a group setting. A course in beginning music theory is included at no additional charge.

Intensive Bass Workshop, ages 15-adult
10:30-11:30AM
For intermediate to advanced bass students who want an intensive “how to play better” workshop. Sessions will explore chamber music for basses, mock auditions, and in-depth solo work.

Brass Workshop for Trumpet and Trombone, ages 8-15
1-2PM
No prior music experience is necessary. This class is also appropriate for the beginning to intermediate students who have played trumpet or trombone for 0-3 years. Classes introduce students to playing trumpet or trombone in a group setting.

String Ensembles

Initial placement is determined by teacher recommendation, included in the registration packet. At the instructor’s discretion, a placement audition may be required.

Beginning String Orchestra, ages 7 and up
Tuition $300
10AM-1:30PM No prior ensemble experience required. Students must have played their instrument for at least one year. Students will learn the basics of playing in an ensemble. A course in beginning music theory is included at no additional charge.

Intermediate String Orchestra, ages 9 and up
Tuition $300
11:30AM-1:30PM
For intermediate students with at least one year ensemble experience.

Chamber Strings, ages 11 and up
Tuition $350
9-11:30AM
For advanced students with at least two years ensemble experience.

Wind Ensembles

Initial placement is determined by teacher recommendation, included in the registration packet. At the instructor’s discretion, a placement audition may be required. There is a special need for percussion players. We provide percussion instruments for the class.

Premier Wind Ensemble, ages 8 and up
Tuition $300
10AM-1PM
No prior ensemble experience required. Student must have played their instrument at least one year. Students will learn the basics of playing in an ensemble. A course in beginning music theory is included at not additional charge.

Chamber Winds, ages 12 and up
Tuition $350
9-11AM
For advanced students with at least two years ensemble experience. This class will focus on the elements of chamber playing, and students will perform in ensembles of various sizes.

Flute Choir, ages 10 and up
Tuition $285
11:30AM-12:30PM
For intermediate to advanced players. Classes will focus on technique and developing sensitivity while in a group setting. Large and small ensembles will work on classical music. Specialty Classes

Jazz Ensemble, ages 12 and up
Tuition $300
9AM-11AM
For intermediate to advanced students, this class is an exploration of different jazz styles, with a focus on improvisation technique and ensemble playing. There is a special need for musicians who play drum set, electric bass and piano. We provide drum set and keyboard. Placement is determined by teacher recommendation, included in the registration packet.

Composition
Tuition $350
12-1:30PM
For advanced students, this course is an opportunity for musicians to experience a practical approach to the fundamentals of orchestration, notation and musical analysis. Students interact in an open atmosphere of exploration to create new musical works. Acceptance is based on the submission of one original composition by the student. Academy Orchestra
Tuition $150

12-2PM
This special one week class is for advanced students with three years ensemble experience, this full symphony Academy orchestra plays music from standard orchestral repertoire. Openings for strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion.
