Support Overview

The Santa Rosa Symphony relies on donor support to fund and maintain its extensive array of musical, educational, and community programs. There are many opportunities to become involved in the life of the Santa Rosa Symphony. Explore the following options and discover the magic of making music possible.

Gifts to the Santa Rosa Symphony support music education for children and breathtaking orchestral music for people of all ages as income from ticket sales covers only half of our operating expenses.

Enjoy a closer relationship with the orchestra while providing major support through the Private Reserve Club. It's our invitation to enjoy receptions featuring fine wines, hors d'oeuvres and conversation with artists and donors during subscription concerts.

In addition to our Annual Appeal, many people choose to remember loved ones by supporting the Symphony in celebration or commemoration of life’s milestones.  Two such ways of giving are through gifts that honor loved ones, such as:

Gifts of Celebration

Many people make contributions to the Symphony as a meaningful expression marking special occasions such as an anniversary, wedding, or birth.  Share your happiness by making a unique contribution to the musical organization that has enriched your life and the lives of loved ones over the years.  Your tribute will be listed in the concert program book.

Memorial Gifts

Sometimes flowers simply can’t communicate the full impact of a loss close to the heart.  A meaningful alternative is to initiate a fund to the Symphony to memorializes a friend or family member, which grows through contributions of friends and family invited to build upon your contribution in lieu of flowers.  Such tributes are listed in the concert program book.

THERE'S STILL TIME!

CHARITABLE GIFTS THROUGH YOUR IRA

Age 70 ½ IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution

The SRS has recently received several generous gifts stimulated by donors who have chosen to take advantage of recent changes to the tax law affecting individual IRA owners aged 70 ½ or older. IF YOU QUALIFY there is still time to support the Symphony through an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution before it expires December 31, 2011.

IRA owners 70 ½ years of age or older who do not need the taxable income from their Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) can:

  1. Support the Symphony with IRA assets that you may not have considered before
  2. Avoid paying taxes on the RMD that could put you into a higher tax bracket or even the AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax)
  3. You can support the Symphony with more than just the amount of your RMD up to a maximum of $100,000 and avoid paying taxes.

 Summary:

  1. You must be at least age 70 ½ when the IRA distribution is made to SRS
  2. Maximum distribution is $100,000 and will satisfy the RMD for the year
  3. Married couples 70 ½ years old or older may each make the maximum distribution of $100,000 on each of their IRAs
  4. The transfer must be made from your IRA directly to SRS
  5. The tax savings is realized by not having the RMD included in your Adjusted Gross Income (There is no tax deduction for the distribution)

Thank you for considering a gift to the Symphony as part of your financial planning.  As always, check with your financial advisors before taking action.
