Wind Ensembles
Students who have been playing their instruments at least one year may audition for Wind Ensemble A. These musicians should have basic music notation and reading skills and be able to play a one-octave scale. A separate forty-five minute Music Appreciation or Beginning Music Theory class (determined by student age) is included as part of the tuition.
For Wind Ensemble B and Chamber Winds, students must be able to play a 2-3-octave scale (as range permits). Winds and brass players should also be familiar with double tonguing. Percussionists should have ability to read music and know proper technique for snare drum, timpani and mallet instruments.
Summer Music Academy Audition Information
Music Appreciation or Beginning Music Theory is included (at no additional charge) as part of the curriculum for students enrolled in Wind Ensemble A. The suggested time to attend is included with the information on the right.
Students just starting their musical training will be placed in Music Appreciation. Students who have been playing their instrument for a longer period of time, and who are ten years of age or older may be placed in Beginning Music Theory.
Musicians are grouped according to age and experience. Adjustments in which class students attend may be made during the first day or so based on teachers’ recommendations.
