Friday Rehearsals 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Sonoma Country Day School, Music Room
$450 for the 2007-2008 Season
$25 Materials Fee

In January 1998, through the Santa Rosa Symphony Music Education Program, Linda Ghidossi-DeLuca established the Young People’s Chamber Orchestra. A twenty-member (all strings) ensemble, this group is modeled after the New Century Chamber Orchestra (NCCO), performing without a conductor. It takes the traditional orchestra performance one step further by molding a group of highly trained string students into a virtuoso, conductorless ensemble: creating, through performance, education, and accessibility, a personal connection with its audience, and conveying the joy of music directly to its listeners. This ensemble was featured during the 2006 Berkeley Junior Bach Festival and is the first of its kind in northern California.

Linda Ghidossi-DeLuca
Music Director

Ms. Ghidossi-DeLuca is a graduate of the Julliard School where she received Bachelor and Master Degrees in solo and chamber music performance. Her recent recordings include three CD’s, including a Grammy nominated recording of works by Dmitri Shostakovich with NCCO, on the New Albion label. As a member of Skywalker Symphony Orchestra, she has recorded movie sound tracks such as Predator II, Ricochet, Soapdish, Jennifer 8, One Fine Day and Mars Attacks. She is the principal violist with the Santa Rosa Symphony and is active as a soloist, free lance musician, and teacher in the Sonoma county and Bay Area.

Auditions
Membership in the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Ensembles (SRSYE) is achieved through competitive auditions. Audition appointments are approximately 10 to 15 minutes in length and can be scheduled by calling the Music Education Department. All auditions require that scales, sight-reading and a prepared solo piece be performed without accompaniment. The prepared solo piece should be an excerpt from the standard repertoire, a solo work or etude, and should demonstrate present level of accomplishment.
