Youth Orchestra membership is comprised of advanced students, many of whom started in the Preparatory and earned their position in the Youth Orchestra through growth, experience and skill. Youth Orchestra members typically have more performing opportunities than students in the Preparatory and Discovery Orchestras and must be committed to a strict routine of rehearsals, private lessons, and at-home practice. Music performed is from the standard symphonic orchestral repertoire.

Dr. Richard Loheyde
Conductor

Dr. Loheyde began his music studies as a violinist, with early training in the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras and Tanglewood Music Center. He has been a violinist and violist with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra. He has degrees from the University of Michigan, the University of Connecticut, and the University of Texas at Austin.

Recent conducting positions include Director of Orchestral Activities at the University of Evansville, Assistant conductor of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Director of Orchestral Activities at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Auditions
Membership in the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Ensembles (SRSYE) is achieved through competitive auditions. Audition appointments are approximately 10 to 15 minutes in length and can be scheduled by calling the Music Education Department. All auditions require that scales, sight-reading and a prepared solo piece be performed without accompaniment. The prepared solo piece should be an excerpt from the standard repertoire, a solo work or etude, and should demonstrate present level of accomplishment.

Payments, Discounts, and Financial Assistance

The entire tuition amount is due by the second rehearsal. If this is not possible, a payment plan can be arranged, but please be aware there will be a $25 payment plan fee per orchestra. Those joining an ensemble after the start of the season will be told the date tuition is due in each instance.

For questions regarding any financial matters please contact the Education Department Registrar, Lana Ramos, by calling 707.546.7097, ext. 225 or by email for assistance.
