Summer Music Academy Complete Schedule

Most classes, ensembles, or orchestras meet Monday through Friday at the Sonoma Country Day School, 4400 Day School Place, Santa Rosa, CA [directions]. Please consult each class/ensemble’s specific information regarding meeting times and days.

Detailed information concerning what students should bring to class, directions to the Sonoma Country Day School campus, parking availability, and a tentative performance schedule will be mailed in early June.

Ensemble/Orchestra Auditions and Placement: Enrollment in the Summer Music Academy is on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, eligibility, seating and part assignments for the instrumental ensembles (string orchestras, wind and jazz ensembles and the Academy Orchestra) are determined in part by placement auditions, which will be held in May and early June 2008.  We will hold a space in one of our ensembles for your student, but may not announce their placement until shortly before SMA begins.

Placement is determined by age and skill level with consideration taken for balance and instrumentation. Students should prepare a short piece that best demonstrates tone, range and technique. Students interested in auditioning for jazz ensemble are encouraged to prepare a jazz selection as well.
